PL 48/10: Promoting Portugal

Filed under: statistics — plinius @ 2:12 pm

Summer in Algarve.

I surrender!

To meet the overwhelming demand for Portuguese library statistics ;-) I have now published the spreadsheet Portugal 1960- in Plinius Data. It contains information about

  • Volumes per capita
  • Loans per capita
  • Visits per capita
  • Turnover (loans/collections)
  • Loans per visit

Some time series go back to 1960, while others are rather more recent.

The data have been taken from Statistics Portugal , which provides digital datasets covering

  1. Volumes de livros e publicações periódicas existentes (N.º) nas bibliotecas [no. of volumes]
  2. Títulos de livros e publicações periódicas existentes (N.º) nas bibliotecas [no. of titles]
  3. Documentos emprestados (N.º) pelas bibliotecas [loans]
  4. Documentos consultados (N.º) nas bibliotecas [internal loans]
  5. Utilizadores de documentos emprestados (N.º) pelas bibliotecas [no. of borrowers]
  6. Utilizadores nas bibliotecas (N.º) [no. of registered visitors]
  7. Bibliotecas (N.º); [no. of library units]
  8. Bibliotecas (N.º) por Localização geográfica (NUTS – 2002); [library units by geographic area]

You find the datasets by entering bibliotecas in the search box – which is labelled Pesquisas. [If you are using the English interface,  this must first be changed to Portuguese].
