Filed under: statistics, urban — plinius @ 1:03 pm

With data from the “Toronto study” of metropolitan statistics I have now calculated the ratio between virtual and physical visits in 2006 for all the cities included.

Picture: City of Gold Coast, Australia (67 virtual per 100 phusical visits)

Cities with more than one million inhabitants

The median is 34 virtual per 100 physical visits

  1. Queens    170
  2. Toronto    90
  3. Singapore    41
  4. Budapest    39
  5. Vienna    38
  6. Hong Kong    30
  7. Brooklyn    30
  8. Prague    14
  9. Montreal    12
  10. Bucharest    4

Cities between five hundred thousand and one million inhabitants

The median is 53 virtual per 100 physical visits

  1. Boston    4,138 – probably due to a misprint in the Table
  2. Helsinki    97
  3. Jacksonville    78
  4. Copenhagen    76
  5. Seattle    75
  6. Bremen    65
  7. Vancouver    53
  8. Düsseldorf    50
  9. Brisbane    29
  10. Rotterdam    26
  11. Amsterdam    10
  12. Oslo    3
  13. Riga    1

Cities between two hundred and fifty and five hundred thousand inhabitants

The median is 54 virtual per 100 physical visits

  1. Lyon    72
  2. City of Gold Coast    67
  3. Dresden    58
  4. Zürich    50
  5. Toulouse    27
  6. Utrecht    27

  1. Hello Tord! I’m sorry I didn’t contact you sooner. I’m also at the IFLA conference. Wonder if we can meet up somehow. Hopefully within the last two days. From the programme, I think you’ll be at the National Libraries with Statistics and Evaluation section (206ab). I’ll be at my section’s prg (Libraries for Children & Young Adults) in room 2000bc. I’ll probably pop by your side since my programme ends at 10.30am. Cheers.
