At the next BOBCATSSS conference in January I am codirecting - with Kari Frodesen - a workshop on the professional role of librarians in the knowledge society.
Librarianship represents second careers for both of us. Kari comes from business and I from peace research. We will draw on our experience as both in- and outsiders when we pose (we hope) some challenging questions about professional identities and collective strategies in the library field.
The venue is Zadar, on the Dalmatian coast. The BOBCATSSS organizers in Croatia have set up a very impressive web site for the 2008 conference. The workshop description is included in the published program.
For those who wish to prepare - or to explore further - we will add some relevant web resources (to be listed here). We start with the following background paper on
The professional role of librarians on the new knowledge economy.
